Hey all.....

My last day on the z pack is tom. I am looking forward to finishing the meds. the ear is feeling 40% better, still have a little pain. I did not swim at the pool today just in case and the water was really chilly when I put my legs in. I want to play it safe for our trip this week to Lake George. I started the iron / packing this morn. I know I always take too much but hey just in case, better to have more than not enough....lol I am just glad this does not involve a plane ride just a car ride...lol I have to work tom night till 11 and then Thurs morn 5-11 so we will leave after I get home, shower: I am sure all the stuff will be packed b/c M has off Thurs. We will be staying until Sunday night, my plan is to be home by 9pm b/c M has work in the morning. Mapquest said it will take @ 3 hours.....we'll see. I hear it is really nice there? I'll give u the scoop when we get back. I am sure Norma will remember this, I had a family that lived two doors down from me that packed up the wood panel station wagon every summer and went to Lake George. When they were gone the street was dead.....lol They had an older son one @ my age and twins younger. They were the ones that never got to go home. If they tried they were thrown out again to stay outside sunrise to well after sunset. After maybe seven days you would see the gross green wood panel wagon back in front of their house and know oh they are back and MANHUNT became fun again b/c Joe Viola was back lol lol lol Norma and I played for hours on my front proch with our Barbies and one of the twins the very "girly" one would try to play too. We would let him be "Ken" or Donny Osmond doll but he would alway insist on wanting the "Barbie" doll. SO we would give him the NON Barbie the generic one.....lol We were not being mean we were just protecting the dolls from male handeling lol ........or in James' case not so male handeling. He would randomly do kartwheels and roll overs and a few handstands out of the blue. He was the "good" twin b/c the brother was the one that had an overload of testostiron, enough for the two of them and would be the devil boy.....much trouble from Jason...
So when MIL mentioned the Lake George thing it brought me back to watching the Viola family packing the wagon on a hot summer morn and packing way too many people into one vehicle then driving up the street not to be seen for 7 long summer days.......It was bitter sweet when they left b/c we were happy to have some quiet but also sad to see them go, they made up a good chunk of the hood......lol lol lol Funny Joe still lives in that house and is raising his children there. And if I am correct, Normie knows better than I do....He has a small clan himself these days....lol Wonder if they make the yearly pilgramage to LG, NY///////LOL LOL ???????
We were on BARNES AVE.....the cute little dead end street, we were the beach street......

I went to Lake George once when I was about 13 with my parents and my younger brother Mike who would've been 11 or so. I loved it.. I had a crush on a cute boy at our hotel and we took a paddle boat called the Mini-haha and all my brother and I did was laugh over the name.. I vaguely remember sneaking off to a store to buy cigarettes.. (duh) because I thought I was cool back then.. little did I know (lol).. have a wonderful vaca..

Ahhh good times...way back when, my parents had a station wagon as all big families had. Of course there were no seatbelts...and the youngest kids were put in the "way way back". We bounced around like popcorn back there because there were no proper seats...just our pillows. I also remember being able to look through the rust hole and see the pavement pass underneath. I would throw sand and little pebbles down there! If there was Child Services back then, all 10 of us would've been taken away!

Those were the days! We had a van with wood paneling and no seat belts, etc either.

Sounds like you guys had fun growing up.

Drew, you're one of 10 kids??? I'm one of 6 and I thought that was a big family. Well, of course, not as big as our friends in AK.

Yes we did have fun during our Barnes Ave summers.....one time we were "watching" a younger girl Allsion on our street, her parents worked all day and her house/yard gave us card blanch to do what ever (good thing we were good kids for the most part) and we had a food fight with Suzie q's in her hall way ....What a mess the wall paper was...We were so scared when her mother yelled...lol lol Stephie

Drew - you're the baby of the bunch!

Here's ours:

1. Danny
2. David
3. Deborah
4. Diane
5. Dawn
6. Donald

How's that for a tongue twister!

Karen said...

Drew, our mothers were alike.. the girls all had the same middle names:

Diane Marie
Janice Marie
Edmund Frances
Karen Marie
Michael Anthony

then my sister had kids and they were Jessica Marie and Kara Marie, then the next one was Ashley...not Marie, but Elizabeth! We were all worried about a curse or something because she broke the chain...

Dawn, all D's!! Love that!

We loved going in the "way, way" back of the station wagon too. If it were just my little brother and me, my mother would put the middle seats down so we could slide around.. she was pretty cool. Now we'd need to be strapped down with a helmet on!

Joseph Howard (my dad's name)
Peter Francis (named after a saint---we busted his chops on that one "lighten up, Frances!")
Andrew John

Dawn said...

My oldest son Eddie is Edward Frances and I have used that line a few times myself - "Lighten up Frances!"

"Lighten Up, Frances" is from the movie: YOUR GUESS HERE

Our family is spread out though so not as crazy as you may thing. The years of birth are '55, '56, '66 & '66 (twins), '71 and '74... so just about over 20 years.

The movie of course is STRIPES
"If you any of youse touch MY STUFF, I'll kill ya!"

Hey Dawn I was 71 too,,,,,,wow that is a big span.....Stephie

Paige said...

C'mon, you guys are killing me here! I must be the "old lady" of the group LOL I was the older of two which was two too many for my mother. I grew up in a predominantly Irish Catholic area where it was more common to see families with 4 or more kids so we were the odd family with only two. I figured I would have 3 myself HA!! David is one of 6; 3 are half sibs, but we don't even think about that all that half and step stuff.
Let's see:
Paige Anne
Jason Andrew

Jay has no kids yet.
I have:
Mary Ann 19 and married
Gabriella Catherine 13
Dawson Quinn aka Quinn 10
Eli Campbell almost 5
Nikolas John-Paul 2
Kingsley Faith 4mos Dawn's soon-to-be Goddaughter :-)

And I can never keep them all straight. They forever correct me on calling them by the wrong names; David swears I'll give them a complex LOL The running joke was that if my grandmother (mom's mom) got flustere she'd call out "Johnny Billy Etta" which was my grandfather/uncle/mom. Now when I call my kids by the wrong names and spit them out until I get it right, David laughs and says "Johnny Billy Etta, whoever you are" LOL My dad is the oldest of 4 and there's a big gap between him and the youngest.

The kicker for us is that after I had Quinn we lost 2 babies and the fertility doc told us be happy with the ones we have because without interention we couldn't have more. Well, five years later on our own we had Eli and you can see what happened from there. :-)

Oh and I said I must be the old lady because I was born in '67.

As for Lake George, we were going to go there for vacation a few years ago and didn't make it. We hope to try next summer; sounds like a great place to visit. We're looking forward to going to Moody Beach in Maine again before the cold weather comes.

Paige, i love all your kids names! What a nice big family. I only have 2 sons and mix their names up all the time!

Our nicknames as kids.. (from my father)

Diane was Dianarino

Janice was Janice Banana (they always sang "Anna banana plays the piana, her mother plays the drums, her father plays the broomstick on Anna Banana's bum) very strange.

Karen (me) was Karenina

Eddie was Eddie spaghetti with the meatball eyes, put em in the oven and you get french fries.
and

Michael, was Michael Michael motorcycle...

Anyone else have weird family names?

STEPHIE BABY! Is that weird lol Papa Steve called me that all the time...After he died so hard to hear Stephie for a few years. Sometimes when I dream of him I hear his voice plain as day in the dream calling me that and no want to wake up from it...when I do wake up I can't get back into the dream and have tears in my eyes....Stephie

Growing up, the nicknames were usually mean spirited, so I'll tell you guys he ones in my family:

Nancy: Nancy Newt (because when she went to Frost Valley back in grade school, everyone got an animal name and her camp leader couldn't think of one so they called her "Nancy Nut" So when she told me, I said right away: "What about Nancy Newt"? Also.."Nancy Eohippus' (I loved dinosaurs when I was a kid) or Nancy E. Like "Sheila E" back in the 80's.
Krissy: "Tadpole" because when she would go swimming, I told her she looked like a tadpole (plus I LOVE tadpoles)
Kelsey: "QuickQuack" This is from an X-Files episode when Scully's dog was named Queequeg. Kels called him QuickQuack...and that had us rolling. Well, that name stuck.
Andy: "Little Bear". He loved that cartoon and also The Indian in the cupboard.
Tom: "Snoopy" Loves Snoopy
Rory: "Pumpkinseed" I'm not sure who started this. I know that sometimes we go fresh water fishing and that's my fav. type of sunnie...but how that got on her, I really don't remember. But now she's like: Papa, I'm your pumpkinseed!"
By the way, all of these names have songs associated with them. Luckilly, blogger doesn't have sound!
